The study of mathematics is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.
By studying mathematics, students develop knowledge, skills and understanding of mathematical concepts and their use within the classroom and beyond. Mathematics is also an integral part of scientific and technological understanding.
The syllabus consists of the following strands:
- number and algebra
- measurement and geometry
- statistics and probability
Across all grades and stages, the focus within mathematics lessons is to develop fluent and efficient strategies that can be applied to a variety of tasks. Through hands on learning, students are also encouraged to develop their ‘working mathematically’ skills, including communication, problem solving and reasoning.
