Human society and its environment

The subjects of history and geography are mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10. Within these subjects, students learn specific historical and geographical concepts and skills. The study of geography enables students to become active, responsible and informed citizens, while the study of history allows students to develop a critical understanding of the past and its impact on the present.

The cross-curriculum priorities of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures, Asia and Australia’s engagement with Asia, and Sustainability are regularly focussed on during learning sequences across both Key Learning Areas.

At Truscott Street Public School students are often given an opportunity to further their understanding of these subject areas through a variety of incursions and excursions, which provide hands on learning opportunities.
