Creative arts

Creative arts is a mandatory Key Learning Area for all students. Throughout this subject, students engage in dance, drama, music and visual arts lessons.

Each creative art form has its own unique knowledge, skills, elements and concepts, as well as a capacity to inspire and enrich lives. Students learn to appreciate, compose, listen to, make and perform across all four creative art forms.

Band, Ensembles and Music Tutoring

Students in Years 3 to 6 have the opportunity to learn an instrument and join the Band, Guitar or Percussion Ensemble. The P&C’s Band Coordinator and Committee engage a contractor to run these music programs, including a conductor and tutors to teach students before and after school hours.

There are instruments available to use at the school, as well as instruments for hire.

For more information, please go to the Truscott Street Public School P&C website and click on the band pages.

K-6 Dance Group

In Term 1, students are invited to try out for the K-6 Dance Group. This group is coordinated by a team of teachers, and students are expected to attend regular rehearsals.

Students will learn a routine to audition for the Ryde Schools Spectacular. If successful, this group will perform at the Sydney Opera House in Term 4.

Choirs

Truscott Street Public School offers two choirs, one for students in K-2 and one for students in Years 3 – 6. During Term 1, all students are invited to try out for a choir group.

The K-2 choir is coordinated by teachers who teach students multiple songs. Students will be given the opportunity to perform at various school events. These students are expected to attend regular rehearsals.

The Years 3-6 choir is coordinated by teachers as part of the Ryde Schools Spectacular. At regular rehearsals, students learn a range of songs. These songs are performed as a multi-school ensemble in the Ryde Schools Spectacular, held at the Sydney Opera House in Term 4. This choir also has the opportunity to perform at a variety of school events.
