Inspire – High potential and gifted education

At Truscott Street Public School, high potential and gifted education is embedded in everyday classroom practice rather than confined to stand-alone programs.

Teachers design learning with clear intentions and success criteria, using regular check-ins to identify when students are ready for greater challenge. They respond by adjusting the pace, depth and complexity of tasks, incorporating higher-order questioning and providing varied opportunities for students to demonstrate their understanding in meaningful ways.

Classrooms are inclusive, supportive and responsive, with EAL/D and learning support teachers working in partnership with classroom teachers to meet diverse needs. Students are encouraged to take on leadership roles within collaborative learning, engage in reflection, and set purposeful goals—building their capacity to monitor and celebrate their own progress over time.

Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.

What is high potential and gifted education?

High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) is centred on recognising and nurturing students whose learning needs, abilities or talents may differ from those of their peers. These students may benefit from increased challenge, enrichment opportunities or differentiated learning experiences to remain engaged, motivated and supported to achieve their full potential.

High potential and gifted students are represented in every school and come from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. Their strengths may emerge across different domains and at different stages of development.

At school, HPGE is embedded within everyday teaching and learning practices. Through high-quality instruction, evidence-informed teaching, targeted support and a strong commitment to student wellbeing, we strive to create learning environments where every child feels challenged, confident, valued and empowered to succeed.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities
